Rabbi Scott Rosenberg

Rabbi Scott Rosenberg became Congregation Beth Shalom's Rabbi in August 2010.

He brings to Congregation Beth Shalom 26 years of accomplished spiritual leadership.  Rabbi Rosenberg is a member of the Rabbinical Assembly which represents Conservative Judaism worldwide.  Rabbi Rosenberg came to Ottawa from Newton, Massachusetts where he was the spiritual leader of Temple Reyim since 1988.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Rabbi Rosenberg earned Bachelor's degrees from both Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1980.  In 1983, he earned his Master's of Arts degree from the Jewish Theological Seminary and was ordained by the Seminary in 1984.  While serving his first congregation in Houston, Texas, Rabbi Rosenberg continued his rabbinic studies and in November 1988 was certified as a Mesader Gitten (specialist in Jewish divorce law) by the Joint Bet Din (Rabbinic Court) of the Rabbinical Assembly.  Rabbi Rosenberg is currently a member of this Rabbinical Court.

Chazzan Rishon Daniel Benlolo

Born in Casablanca, Morocco and the youngest of 12 children, Cantor Daniel Benlolo and his family settled in Quebec - cradle of Canadian Sefardia - in the early 1970's.  Fluent in French, English, Arabic, and Hebrew, he attended the Rabbinical College of Canada and became Chazzan of the Spanish-Portuguese Synagogue of Montreal at the age of 20, a position which he held for eight years.

In 1991, Cantor Benlolo received a prestigious scholarship to study for two years Ashkenazi, Yemenite, Syrian and other forms of Sephardi cantorial styles at the Belz School of Jewish Music, an affiliate of Yeshiva University in New York.  He is a multi-talented artisan who designs ketubot and other beautiful Judaic art.  His love for singing and stage has brought him to perform in many countries including Venezuela, England, Israel, Cuba and the United States.

In addition to his duties at Congregation Beth Shalom of Ottawa, Cantor Benlolo performs at community functions while working as a teacher in Talmud Torah and as Judaic advisor for the Tamir Foundation.  He is also the founder of the SJCC Shira Ottawa Choir and L'école Benlolo Bar/Bat Mitzvah School.

Cantor Benlolo was the recipient of the Elaine Rabin Social Service Award and one of the recipients of the 2004 United Way Community Builder Award for his dedication and commitment to helping others in the community.  He uses his musical and vocal talents to benefit charitable organizations and is enthusiastically involved in promoting the Ottawa Jewish community.  His interfaith and multicultural work was acknowledged in 2005 when the Universal Peace Federation and Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace recognized him as an Ambassador for Peace for his effort and for contributing to the fulfillment of the hope of all ages to live in a unified world of peace.

Chazzan Sheini Howard Dover

Born in Ottawa, Ontario, and the eldest of three children, Chazzan Sheini Howard Dover has been with Congregation Beth Shalom for nearly 20 years and has held the position of Chazzan Sheini for over 10 years. Howard's musical life began early with piano, trombone and Jewish choir combined with music study and vocal training.

In 1986, Howard graduated from Yeshiva University with a Master's of Arts degree in psychology and continues practicing as a therapist.  Howard's love of Torah and his commitment to Beth Shalom continues to grow and it is his wish to help others to participate and grow with us.
