Born in Casablanca, Morocco and the youngest of 12 children, Cantor Daniel Benlolo and his family settled in Quebec - cradle of Canadian Sefardia - in the early 1970's. Fluent in French, English, Arabic, and Hebrew, he attended the Rabbinical College of Canada and became Chazzan of the Spanish-Portuguese Synagogue of Montreal at the age of 20, a position which he held for eight years.
In 1991, Cantor Benlolo received a prestigious scholarship to study for two years Ashkenazi, Yemenite, Syrian and other forms of Sephardi cantorial styles at the Belz School of Jewish Music, an affiliate of Yeshiva University in New York. He is a multi-talented artisan who designs ketubot and other beautiful Judaic art. His love for singing and stage brought him to perform in many countries including Venezuela, England, Israel, Cuba and the United States.
In addition to his duties at Congregation Beth Shalom of Ottawa he continues to perform at community functions while working as a teacher in Talmud Torah and as Judaic advisor for the Tamir Foundation. He is also the founder of the SJCC Shira Ottawa Choir and L'ecole Benlolo Bar/Bat Mitzvah School.
Cantor Benlolo is the recipient of the Elaine Rabin Social Service Award and one of the recipients of the 2004 United Way Community Builder Award for his dedication and commitment to helping others in the community. He uses his musical and vocal talents to benefit charitable organizations and is enthusiastically involved in promoting the Ottawa Jewish community. His interfaith and multicultural work was acknowledged this year when the Universal Peace Federation and Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace recognized him as an Ambassador for Peace for his effort and for contributing to the fulfillment of the hope of all ages to live in a unified world of peace.

Parlant couramment le français, l'arabe, l'hébreu et l'anglais, il étudie au Collège rabbinique du Canada et devient le Chantre de la synagogue espagnole et portugaise de Montréal à l'âge de 20 ans; un poste qu'il occupera pendant huit ans.
En 1991, le Chantre Benlolo reçoit une prestigieuse bourse d'études pour étudier pendant deux ans divers styles de musique, tels que Ashkenazi, Yéménite, Syrien et autres styles sépharades, à l'école de musique juive Belz, celle-ci affiliée à l'université Yeshiva de New York. Le Chantre Benlolo est un artisan multidisciplinaire qui conçoit des ketubot et d'autres magnifiques œuvres d'art judaïques. Son amour du chant et de la scène l'amène à se produire un peu partout à travers le monde : au Venezuela, en Angleterre, en Israël, au Cuba et aux États-Unis.
En plus de ses fonctions à la Congrégation Beth Shalom d'Ottawa, il continue de paraître aux cérémonies et réceptions communautaires, d'enseigner a l'Ecole Talmud Torah d'Ottawa et de servir de conseiller judaïque pour la fondation Tamir. Il est également le fondateur de la chorale de SJCC d'Ottawa et de l'École Benlolo Bar/Bat Mitzvah School.
Le Chantre Benlolo est le récipiendaire du prix Elaine Rabin Social Service Award et un des récipiendaires du prix des bâtisseurs communautaires de Centraide de 2004, en raison de son dévouement et de son engagement envers la communauté en besoin. Il met constamment à profit ses talents musicaux pour des organismes à buts non lucratifs et c'est avec coeur et enthousiasme qu'il fait la promotion de la communauté juive d'Ottawa. Son travail auprès des communautés interreligieuses et multiculturelles s'est vu reconnaître cette année lorsque la Fédération pour la paix universelle et la Fédération interreligieuse et internationale pour la paix mondiale le nommèrent ambassadeur de paix en raison de ses efforts et de sa contribution vers l'espoir et la possibilité de vivre dans un monde uni et sans guerre, pour les gens de tous les âges.
